beyerdynamic MEETS KAMRAD

In one of our recent beyerdynamic blog posts, we introduced you to our partnership with renowned German musician and singer-songwriter KAMRAD.

KAMRAD - beyerdynamic

In the interview: KAMRAD
Musician, Singer-Songwriter

In this interview, Kamrad exclusively reveals what connects him to beyerdynamic, what fuels his inspiration, and how his hits are created. He gives us a glimpse into his creative process, talks about his musical influences, and shares his upcoming goals. Stay tuned!

Stage or Studio?

KAMRAD: The great thing about my job is the variety. I love being both in the studio and on stage. But if I had to choose, I’d say I’m slightly more passionate about performing live. Seeing the audience, celebrating together, and making music for them in the moment—there’s nothing quite like it.

Club or Festival?

KAMRAD: If it’s my own show, I’d say clubs. Of course, playing at a festival with 20,000 to 30,000 people is absolutely incredible, especially outdoors in summer. But the people who buy tickets specifically for your show and come just to see you make it even more special. That’s why I’d always choose my own headline show over a festival.

Tour Life or Everyday Life?

KAMRAD: Definitely tour life! I’ve just come back from touring, and adjusting to everyday life again feels quite dull in comparison. Playing concerts every night and travelling with your friends is just way more fun. That said, I do appreciate the contrast. Still, if I could, I’d be on tour all year round!

In-Ear or Over-Ear?

KAMRAD: It depends on the situation. In the studio or when checking mixes, I mostly use over-ear headphones because they offer a broader sound spectrum and better isolation. On the go, I prefer in-ear headphones. I’m especially impressed with the new AMIRON 300, which brings the best of both worlds together—offering a full, immersive sound in a compact in-ear format. That makes them the perfect travel companion.

Partnership: KAMRAD x beyerdynamic

beyerdynamic Blog: We’re thrilled about this year’s partnership! We can combine our decades of expertise in audio with your unique musical talent. What does beyerdynamic mean to you?

KAMRAD: beyerdynamic has always been synonymous with the highest standard in audio for me—ever since I started recording my own music or stepping into a studio. There’s no professional studio in the world without beyerdynamic headphones. They’re the ultimate tool for recording vocals, mixing, and producing. beyerdynamic has been a constant in my career. I love how much emphasis they place on quality. What’s also great is that it’s a German company and that their products are designed for both studio and on-the-go use. This means I can take the studio-quality sound I’m used to with me wherever I go. That’s an amazing combination, and I’m really excited about our partnership.

KAMRAD ON TOUR

beyerdynamic Blog: Your Friends Tour 2025 is behind you, and your next concerts and tour are already in the works. How does it feel to play your own headline tour and move so many people with your music?

KAMRAD:

Being on tour and playing live is the ultimate experience for me—it’s the best feeling in the world. There’s nothing better than standing on stage and seeing people in the crowd singing along to songs I wrote and connecting with them. It’s surreal, and I’m incredibly grateful for it.

This tour, in particular, was on a whole new level for me. Seeing the kind of audience that showed up—from families with young kids to grandparents—all connected by music I once wrote in my tiny room, is just mind-blowing. I can’t wait for the next tour in summer. Honestly, I never want to leave the stage—I enjoy every moment of it. I’m beyond grateful and just so happy.

beyerdynamic Blog: What have you learned from this tour?

KAMRAD: There are two key things I’ve really taken to heart on this tour.

Firstly, having a great band that delivers a professional show every night is important, but having an incredible atmosphere within the team—both with the band and crew—makes all the difference. These people are my best friends, and that makes the whole experience even more special. When the vibe is good off stage, it translates to an even better performance on stage. The fans deserve that kind of energy.

Secondly, it’s never about perfection—it’s about emotion and spontaneous moments, even if things go slightly wrong. Some of the most memorable moments on this tour were when fans held up signs and sang along. They weren’t perfect, but they were the moments we talked about the most afterward. Being open to these moments is what makes a show truly special.

Music creation and inspiration

beyerdynamic Blog: What’s your creative process when writing a new song? Where do you find inspiration for hits like I Believe or Change?

KAMRAD: Songwriting is both the easiest and hardest thing in the world. You can’t force a great idea, but when inspiration strikes, it just flows naturally. That’s why I always keep myself open to ideas, no matter where I am or what I’m doing. When an idea comes, I write it down or record it straight away.

I can’t sit down and say, “Right, now I’m going to write a big hit.” Sometimes it works, but usually, the best ideas come unexpectedly. I always make a note of them, and later, I take them to the studio, where my team and I refine them into full songs.

It’s also about being willing to make sacrifices. Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night to record an idea, which can annoy my girlfriend. Or I jump out of the shower to take notes. That’s just how it is! The initial idea happens spontaneously but turning it into a song takes hard work—writing verses, refining lyrics, and shaping everything into something meaningful.

beyerdynamic Blog: Do you have musical influences that have shaped your style?

KAMRAD:

Definitely. Your influences change over time, just like your musical taste. But there are three artists who were fundamental to why I started making music in the first place.

First and foremost—the Beatles. They were my first introduction to music. My dad was their biggest fan, which made me their biggest fan. I learned all their songs on guitar, I still know every lyric by heart, and I’m a proper hardcore fan.

Then there’s Prince. To me, he was the most complete artist of all time—vocally, in his dancing, his entire artistic vision, and of course, his guitar playing. An incredible musician who inspired me massively.

And finally, Ed Sheeran. When I started writing songs, he was just breaking through. Seeing someone like him succeed with just a guitar made me think, “Maybe I can do this too.” That gave me a lot of confidence, and I was a huge fan of his songs.

Right now, I’m really into MGMT and Dominic Fike—more indie-pop vibes. But the foundation always comes back to those three artists.

beyerdynamic Blog: How did you get into music?

KAMRAD: I got into music through my father, who played the guitar himself. That’s why there were always guitars lying around our apartment, and they were really on the floor so I could crawl over and play a bit myself. When I was four years old, I got my first guitar and spent almost all my time with this instrument. I quickly started playing Beatles songs and writing my own songs in terrible English that really didn’t sound like English. But the tendency was always there: I wanted to make music, play the guitar, sing, and create my own stuff. My parents always supported that

That’s why I went to music school for a long time and could go to the studio because they financed it. In small studios, you could record a finished song for a few hundred euros. That’s how it all started, and eventually, it became more serious, even if it was only moderately successful. But I couldn’t let go of it and I’m glad it has worked out at least this far because it has always been my great passion.

Future

beyerdynamic Blog: You were just on tour, and the next tour for 2026 is already planned. Additionally, you will be performing at various festivals this year. Are there any goals for the coming years that you would like to achieve or are working towards?

KAMRAD: I’ve learned that in this industry—especially today—you can’t plan too far ahead. If you had asked me a few years ago how I imagined the future, I definitely wouldn’t have mentioned anything I’ve experienced recently. That would have been too far-fetched. Accordingly, I’m cautious and try not to set goals that might not be achieved for whatever reason, leading to disappointment.

Instead, I focus on what I can control—my music. I’m working on what I call “Chapter Two” of KAMRAD. There’s a lot of new music coming, and I’m excited to show where I’m at now and how my sound has evolved while staying true to myself. That’s my challenge as an artist, to keep evolving.

The biggest goal ahead is the 2026 tour. It’s going to be an even better live show, with some bigger venues. I can’t wait to get started! That’s definitely a milestone for me. But beyond that, I just focus on my music—because that’s what I can shape and develop. And trust me, there’s a lot coming!
