MADE IN GERMANY – THIRD-GENERATION T1 and T5

In 1924, Eugen Beyer founded his own company in Berlin. Called “Elektrotechnische Fabrik Eugen Beyer”, it laid the foundations for one of the world’s leading manufacturers of headphones, microphones and conference systems, and for the company now known as beyerdynamic GmbH & Co. KG.

First introduced in 1887, the Made in Germany merchandise mark has become a globally recognised label for quality goods manufactured in Germany. Associated with aspects such as trust, innovation and quality, the “Made in Germany” label is an important factor in influencing purchasing decisions made by consumers.

In order for a product to be described as “Made in Germany”, major parts of the production process, such as development, design, production and quality assurance, must take place in Germany. The majority of our products are developed, designed and manufactured at our Heilbronn site in Germany. We are proud to be able to assign the “Made in Germany” seal of quality to many of our products.

Today, we want to explain why our high-end T1 and T5 headphones (3rd generation) are two of our products that carry this quality designation.

Made in Germany – from conception to final touches

Many of our products are manufactured at our Heilbronn site in Germany, and then sold throughout the entire world. Such products include the T1 and T5 Tesla headphones, which are developed, designed and manufactured on our own premises. From product conception to the very final touches, everything connected with the production of these headphones takes place on-site in Heilbronn.

But a product, of course, consists of more than simply an idea, a design and the technology it is built around – it contains many individual components that make up its hardware. As with all our products, these components are chosen for reasons of quality and durability.

That’s why, in the case of the T1 and T5 headphones, we opt to use parts made in our local region. Here are a few examples:

The housing cover of the T1 (3rd generation)

The T1’s ear cups are manufactured by our partner in Karlsruhe. We have a history of more than twenty years of co-operation. What is so special about this: the company processes the stainless steel material we require. We were also impressed by the high level of experience in handling and producing customised, precisely etched hole patterns so that our open high-end headphones T1 also offer our customers the best quality in sound and design. In order to ensure the best possible quality for both the T1 and T5 ear cups, we have opted for two different companies in this case.

The T5’s ear cups are manufactured by Demmel, a company based in Scheidegg near Lindau. The people at Demmel specialise in the processing of aluminium, and originally worked mainly for customers in the automotive industry. A further thing we appreciate about Demmel is the close cooperation between our two companies and a mutual enthusiasm for new ideas, regardless of the partner they originate with.

On top of this, we are impressed by the way Demmel doesn’t hesitate to satisfy the wishes of its partner by retooling its machines even for smaller production runs. In other ways too, our special designs and extremely high quality standards can often be challenging for suppliers.

What’s more, Demmel is a family-owned company like us, and we share many common values. That’s why we look forward to the future co-branding on the ear cups of our high-end T1 and T5 models, further underlining our close partnership.

The yokes on the T1 and T5 models

Smaller pieces, such as the brushed aluminium yokes, originate from Germany as well. In this case, we have chosen a supplier who lives “just around the corner” from us on the River Neckar.

Impressed by the top quality of its products, we chose the Marbach-based company as our partner for the yokes used on the T1 and T5 models.

But products that impress us with their quality are not always sourced from Germany. The first-rate Alcantara® headband is imported from Italy.

We chose Alcantara® because of its many excellent properties. As well as being soft to the touch, supple and easy to maintain, Alcantara® perfectly rounds off our headphones thanks to its elegant appearance. Weighting only half as much as leather, Alcantara® is a highly innovative material that brings an unparalleled combination of sensory, aesthetic and functional qualities.

Together with the supplier’s certified commitment to sustainability, these properties make Alcantara® a true icon of our contemporary lifestyle.

Catering for the requirements of design, acoustics and sustainability can sometimes be a difficult balancing act, and we still have a long journey in front of us with regard to optimisation. However, our high-end T1 and T5 models represent an enormous stride in the right direction, and we look forward to making further progress in the future.

For us, “Made in Germany” is much more than a simple platitude. The 210 workers employed in the production of our headphones and microphones contribute all the care, precision and passion for detail necessary to ensure that top-quality products from Heilbronn are a success story on markets across the globe.
