First things: The Sound

The MMX 100, MMX 150 and MMX 200 wireless share the same acoustic design, and the sound can best be described as lively and detailed. Both headsets boast a powerful bass, clear trebles and excellent three-dimensionality. Whether it’s effect-filled action, atmospheric sounds or speech, the MMX 100 and MMX 150 really bring your games to life. The MMX 100 is an analogue headset, while the MMX 150 is a USB headset with an integrated sound card. The MMX 200 wireless is a Bluetooth® 5.3 Headset.

Like the MMX 100, the MMX 300 is a purely analogue headset. The MMX 300 is produced at our Heilbronn site, where we also manufacture its acoustic driver. It therefore boasts an even higher level of finishing and acoustics. The MMX 300 displays a somewhat stronger presence in the treble range and a more analytical sound. In comparison to the MMX 300, the MMX 100,, MMX 150 and MMX 200 wireless have a more accentuated bass. The MMX 300 has a frequency range of 5 to 35,000 Hz, the MMX 100 and MMX 150 a range of 5 to 30,000 Hz. The MMX 200 wireless transmits a range of 20 – 20,000 Hz.

MMX 100, MMX 150 & MMX 200 wireless: Spacious, clear and precise sound with powerful bass.

MMX 300: Very spatial and precise sound. Very detailed in the highs and balanced bass.

MMX 100, MMX 150 & MMX 200 wireless: Natural, brilliant and present voice reproduction with high speech intelligibility.

MMX 300: Natural and present voice reproduction with very high speech intelligibility.

Functions and compatibility

What makes the MM 150 and MMX 200 wirelss so special, however, is its Augmented Mode. Here, ambient noise is picked up via two microphones located in the ear cups and intermixed in stereo with the playback signal in real time. During this process, the volume of the intermixed ambient noise is adjusted so that listeners hear them in the same way as if they weren’t wearing headphones. This function is therefore able to simulate an open-back design.

The MMX 150 and the MMX 200 wireless have a integrated volume dial in the ear cup with a control function and Light Guide System. All headphone functions can be controlled via this dial. The MMX 100, on the other hand, has a volume dial with a separate mute button. On the MMX 300, volume and muting are adjustable via the cable remote control.

All models are compatible with PC, Playstation, XBOX and other consoles. It should be noted, however, Augmented Mode (and control elements) require power, and therefore only operate via USB (or USB dongle). All devices and consoles that use the USB standard also support Augmented Mode. The Xbox consequently provides no support.

The MMX 200 wireless also offers a low latency mode. To use this, the included USB dongle has to be connected to the PC or other USB devices in order to keep the latency when gaming as low as possible. This eliminates the input lag between audio and image and ensures the best gaming experience.

Here an overview of compatibility and connectivity options:

The Impedance

MMX 100, MMX 150 and MMX 200 wireless use the same 32 ohm system, permitting use with mobile devices. The MMX 300 also uses a 32 ohm system, but technically different to that used by the MMX 100, MMX 150 and MMX 200 wireless.

Design and features

The basic model of the MMX comes in black with velour ear pads. MMX 100. MMX 150 and MMX 200 wireless headsets are available in grey or black. Microphones and cables are detachable on all three models.

The shape of the ear pads on the MMX 200 wireless has been slightly revised. Thanks to the new ear cushion shape, the gaming headset is particularly suitable for long gaming sessions. The ear cushions and the leatherette headband are filled with memory foam. This guarantees wearing comfort and prevents annoying pressure points on the head.

The ear pads on all headsets can be replaced quickly and easily.

Conclusion

All four headsets target different areas of use. Before you choose your new gaming headset, give careful thought to the way in which you will be using it. If you intend to connect it to the controller on your console or the soundcard in your PC, USB functions possibly make less sense, and the MMX 100 is probably the right choice. But if you don’t have a really good soundcard in your PC or definitely want to take advantage of Augmented Mode, then you might want to take a closer look at the MMX 150. Then again, if you want a somewhat stronger presence in the treble range and a more analytical sound during gaming, definitely check out the MMX 300, manufactured in Heilbronn. If you don’t want to use cables, it’s best to use the MMX 200 wireless. Thanks to the dongle, you can also play wirelessly with the lowest latency.
