WHAT IS TRUE WIRELESS?

True wireless in-ears now number among the most widely used headphone models. This is not surprising – their small size brings users a huge amount of flexibility and freedom of movement. But what does “True Wireless” actually mean, and what is “True Wireless Stereo”? We’ll try to provide you with the answers.

True wireless headphones: a brief explanation

True wireless means the headphones have no connecting wires at all, not even between the ear buds. Accordingly, the two ear buds on true wireless in-ears are completely independent of each other.

Design variants of true wireless in-ear headphones

There are basically two different design variants for true wireless in-ears – the stem design and the stemless design.

In the case of the stem design, some of the in-ear’s components are housed in the stalk-like part that projects outside the ear. This “stem” can prove useful when inserting or removing the ear buds. With the stemless design, all the components are built into the ear bud itself. This means that stemless models, such as our Free BYRD true wireless in-ears, have nothing protruding from the ear, and are therefore compacter and less obtrusive.

The true wireless model you find better will depend on your personal taste and preferences.

True Wireless Stereo In-Ears

Stereo, derived from the term stereophonic, describes a three-dimensional sonic image created using at least two different audio channels. The term stereo sound is probably familiar to you in connection with loudspeaker configurations at home, involving two speakers, one placed to the right of the room and one to the left. In contrast to stereo sound, mono sound has only one playback source, or the same signal is heard by both ears. Mono sound is what’s normally heard with speech applications and from hands-free sets, and is no disadvantage in these areas because voice is always transmitted in mono.

True wireless stereo in-ears (TWS in-ears) are therefore in-ear models which deliver real wireless stereo to two separate ear buds. TWS in-ears in stereo mode therefore brings you a spacious and natural sound.

Maximum charging flexibility

True wireless in-ears offer maximum flexibility due to the charging function integrated in their storage case. Once you have stopped using your ear buds and placed them in their case, they will be recharged automatically. The case itself needs to be regularly recharged, of course, but is then normally capable of recharging your in-ears multiple times over.
